Jabber is an instant messaging protocol. There are several other IM protocols such as aim icq msn and yahoo.
Google Talk uses the jabber protocol. The thing that makes jabber special is that you can set up your own server.
If you wish to use the jabber protocol to talk to other ugotta members simply install a jabber client, I recommend GAIM.
Choose ugotta.org as your server and register with any username you like(as long as it is not already taken).
